  Thoughts about Depression and Anxiety

  this is mostly directed to others that were born/raised in the cult.

  more specifically those raised in the cult who also suffered from severe depression and/or social anxiety disorder or any other mental illness (other than the normal probs that come with being in the borg).

  sometimes i wonder if its just me that doesnt feel like a person now.

  Dearest Flower,
  It is so sad that we were never allowed to have feelings. Emotionally we were stunted. Whatever feelings we had were supposed to harmonize with WT direction. And since every moment of our lives was dedicated to the organization we never had the opportunity to develop interests outside of those prescribed by WT...and if your father was an elder or MS there was no time to have family recreation, other than service, assemblies, conventions. Makes it hard in a marriage relationship too when husband asks what do you want to do for a vacation.

  And yes, you are progressing into the next step of 'where do I go from here.' It's time to take chances. I started getting involved at the local high school, volunteered to help with the drama program. It was weird at first but I'm in my fifth year. It has branched out into other connections with people in the community...and it is absolutely WONDERFUL!

  MANDATORY Reporting of Child Abuse

  it appears there are a few misconceptions when it comes to the reporting of child abuse.

  the federal law child abuse prevention and treatment act (capta)(jan. 1996 version), 42 u.s.c.

  failure to report can result in civil liability.

  In 1998 there was a group in the State of Washington trying to make clergy mandatory reports. It didn't fly. But teachers and school staff, mental health counselors and staff, medical personnel (public and private) are all mandatory reporters to law enforcement. In the small town where I live at least the clergy of mainstream religions have educated themselves and taken pro-child, pro-active positions to protect children. It is unfortunate that children of the WT are socially isolated. They have limited association with people outside the congregation, limited trust with those who are mandatory reporters. These children are really silent lambs - meek, sheep like, vulnerable, with no voice, and very few (sometimes none) trustworthy shepherds.

  Okay, so nobody believes its possible to stay a virgin until marriage. This is how it works - never be allowed to be alone, which is what happened to Rocky and I. Couldn't sit next to each other on the sofa to watch TV at my parent's house...never went anywhere with out a chaperone. He was 24, I was 21 - both virgins on our wedding night. If it weren't for the chaperones who knows what would have happened!

  Murder in Miami!!!

  this past weekend two highschool seniors were out on the beach in 'south beach miami'.

  the went for a walk on the beach near a popular club.

  they were both attacked and kidnapped by 5 guys.

  What a nightmare! wants me to keep my girls close to home.

  About the moon - my boss has tracked access to our emergency services (mental health crisis line). We generally have peaks during full moon phases. Always feel bad for the on-call mental health professionals during that time, it gets busy in the middle of the night.

  Ven - go hug you mom and dad and tell them you won't walk on the beach alone!

  Has anyone read this series of books??

  i have recently started to read the series of books by tim lahaye and jerry b. jankins - its the "left behind" series of books...based loosly on the time period after the rapture... any one else ever read them?.

  One of my kids read the first in the series in high school. One day we came home and found Rocky's clothes and shoes at the door to the utility room. His truck was home, but he wasn't in the house, in the barn, no note telling us where he had gone...so we had a big laugh and said he had been raptured and we were left behind! We found out later that he had gotten too dirty fixing some machinery and decided to leave his dirty clothes outside, took a shower and put on clean clothes, and then a friend picked him up to go somewhere. We still tease him about that when we find his clothes in front of the washing machine!

  The Annual ``Don't Misbehave'' at Asemblies'' KM

  greetings from the ``here we go again'' department.

  while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!

  '' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.

  Sunspot - it is experiences like yours that made me take a second look at the 'love amongst the brothers.' We too were in the low income range, and in fact did communte 120 miles to conventions/assemblies. Our car was more economical than the hotels. We were not accustomed to spending more than Burger King amounts for food and so many times we had to pack picnic dinners or wait until we got home. Tough on the kids. Socializing? our kids were generally excluded from any post assembly fun because we were not in the inner circle of elders/pioneers children. And new clothes? we just hoped no one would notice. Pat yourself on the back - at least you thought ahead about the tip business...I really think the low income folks appreciate tipping etiquette much more than people who have never had to rely on minimum wage/tip jobs.   "Shepherding Calls"

  how often are these elders supposed to come visit anyway?

  it's been a long while since we had any elder come to our house... sure, we had some "brothers and sisters" come by to either use the bathroom while in the service or just say hi, but an elder?

  it's been at least a year.. are these guys getting lazy?

  I think lately the elders only shepherd those who will lead. Our last shepherding call lasted 4 hours...they only planned on spending one hour with us. They prayed at the end that we might find some answers to our "unresolved issues." A few days ago one of the elders saw me in the grocery store and went out of his way to say hello. It was very weird. Have to say tho' that some congregations are very concrete sequential about shepherding. My dad does shepherding calls almost every Wednesday evening. Scarey!

  DB and Room 215 - re: tipping
  My youngest works at an espresso stand, the drive up kind with only one person working two windows. The Dubs drive through with a whole car load (out in service of course) and order several drinks, usually the hardest ones to make, espresso milkshakes, and then offer her the magazines, leave no tip, and barely a thank you. I'm sure there are exceptions, but you don't hear about those often.

  i have two stuffed pandas hanging from my car's rear-view mirror.

  one of them was my first christmas present from my sister.
